I’m just writing to say thanks for your support. I’ve been here 4 years and I’ve watched the drastic changes and impact you and IOA have had on the jail. Where we won’t be heard as inmates, you all at IOA are definitely our voice of reason that won’t be denied. I had to base on officer Coleman punk ass (excuse my language) the other night. So the cell I’ve been put in, the hot water button don’t work (not that if it did any would come out, anyway), so I have to resort to asking the night-time officer to let me out so I can get some hot water out of the janitor/mop closet just to cook my food. So, this particular night, officer Coleman of the 3rd floor was working. We’ve had problems in the past, so I assumed an altercation was inevitable. Continue reading →
What’s going on? Sorry it’s taken me so long to write back, but let’s just say I have not been myself lately. Sometimes I don’t know what or how to feel. Because I am so weighed down by personal issues and with the fact of being incarcerated for a year now. As far as this jail goes it’s still the same slave ship it has always been. These people act like they care about us, but they really don’t. They have made it much harder for our people to see us. Speaking of which, I have not seen my kids in 3 months. And that is the only way I can maintain. Hell, I have a son that’s about to be a year old, and one that’s soon to be 8 years old. I can’t take not seeing them…This damn jail is DESTROYING my family! What’s up IOA? Thanks for writing. I’m hanging in there. Can’t really complain, God let me wake up. But as far as DCJ goes, same shit, different toilet. They find a way to make our lives worse by the day. The pod that I’m in has had a problem with our kiosk for damn near a month and the jail has still failed to fix it. Continue reading →
What’s up world? I’m so tired of being in here. I’ve been here 20 months, my life is on hold. What happened to staying out until 11:00? My kids don’t even come in at 6:45! Also, what’s up with these “no court date shown?” I can’t get house arrest because I don’t live in Durham. The struggle is real. I haven’t been charged for medical since I have been here, now all of a sudden they want to take my money. Never again will I go unless I’m half-way dead. $20 for some shampoo, really? I like to say at the end of the day they get to go home and we stuck here. Some care and some don’t. Out of sight and out of mind. But our day is coming sooner than later. They can’t hold us forever. Keep y’all head above water. Stay prayed up. God does answer prayers. Be blessed. Shout out to the girls: Melanie B, Brittany L, Ebony F, Christie L.
How ya’ll doing? Shit still fucked up. Tell me this: why the fuck is the A/C on full blast during the winter? Plz answer that for me. It’s freezing in the cells. And when we tell the c.o.’s, they say ‘what can we do about it?’ It’s four days later and the A/C still blowing on full blast. Continue reading →
Hope you’re doing well. Well I just wanted to write back to let ya know how things are going around here…I asked for toilet paper one day and the c.o. told me NO because she didn’t like me and because I was too white! Really. I put a grievance in on her and nothing was ever done. I still have an open grievance from May about an officer that told me to piss in the shower because she wouldn’t pop my door unless I was gonna stay behind that door. Sick, right? And the other day I saw an officer and a young girl, a minor, age 16, get into it. Continue reading →
I thank you for your letter and I appreciate your concern about the inmates here. We need more people like you! You’re right, people can’t put aside their silly beef to stand together to fight this battle of oppression, suppression and depression. It’s hard being an inmate, but even harder being an inmate in Durham County Jail. They suppress us in so many ways. The only good things about DCJ is the STARR and Grad program, and the psych help because I see Mrs. Kelly for my mental issues and she is a big help. She actually cares. Everybody else I can’t really say that for. But I been locked up in the county now for 4 and a half years and I still don’t have a trial date. I have seen and heard a lot since I been here. It’s madness. I remember my friend J’s ankle was messed up and he couldn’t walk, he was layin on the bed and D.O. Boria went into his room and smacked him for some crazy reason. Craziness…I’m gone. Appreciate the letter. O.B.
