IOA

Whats up? I’m living, just trying to keep this jail from stealing my spirit. Yea, I passed word to a couple people in my pod about writing and giving their thoughts on our visits or incarceration problems period. Continue reading

‘Our day is coming sooner than later’

What’s up world? I’m so tired of being in here. I’ve been here 20 months, my life is on hold. What happened to staying out until 11:00? My kids don’t even come in at 6:45! Also, what’s up with these “no court date shown?” I can’t get house arrest because I don’t live in Durham. The struggle is real. I haven’t been charged for medical since I have been here, now all of a sudden they want to take my money. Never again will I go unless I’m half-way dead. $20 for some shampoo, really? I like to say at the end of the day they get to go home and we stuck here. Some care and some don’t. Out of sight and out of mind. But our day is coming sooner than later. They can’t hold us forever. Keep y’all head above water. Stay prayed up. God does answer prayers. Be blessed. Shout out to the girls: Melanie B, Brittany L, Ebony F, Christie L.

‘Not falling for the trick this system uses…’

Jan 4 2017

Dear —

Hello to you all the IOA. I pray you all had a wonderful holiday season. Yes, I’m still here after 39 months standing strong in my faith. Refusing to bend. Not falling for the trick this system uses (waiting you out) hoping you sign a plea for something you did not do! Continue reading

‘WAR: It’s time to fight back’

Whatz up.

I’m still fighting. I know you haven’t heard from me in a while. I been doing a lot of reading and thinking. Like the question what goal are we trying to get to? How do we plan on getting there?

What the system doing to us is the same thing they been doing for years! They just change the shell. Like slavery instead of working the fields, they send us to jail and prison. Instead of house niggers, they have c.o.’s or d.o.’s. Also D.A.’s.  Continue reading

‘I am 62 and losing valuable income because of this machine’

Thanks for responding to my letter. Unfortunately, I have already been sentenced to 90 days and retake STARR and GRAD again which I had completed in March and April of this year, thanks to Judge Hill both times…By the time I am released I will have served 7 months this year in this fucking rat hole, which is very, very nasty. This is my second conviction based on the date provided by an electronic machine. (CAM, Continuous Alcohol Monitor) Continue reading

‘They always cry it’s a security concern when they don’t want to change for the better’

Hey J & S,

I hope y’all don’t mind me responding to you both in a single letter. I have just completed putting final touches on a petition for Writ of Mandamus to be mailed to Durham District Court in the AM. Trying to level the playing field keeps me wide open in here!

I can hardly wait to get out of this awful place. I am 65 years young. There is much work to do in the realm of jurisprudence for the offenders and the courts to get the playing field leveled and reduce crime.

I am going to seek a Soros Justice Fellowship when I get out to conduct a study in Durham, Wake, Guilford, and Mecklenburg jails and courts to see just how effective their court appointed lawyer system is and how justice is meted out in these courts. I’d like to compare the plea deals offered by those various DAs for similar offenses committed in those 4 counties. If I get a justice fellowship, I could then hire a small staff and have other non-profit agencies help me to extend this study to all 100 counties.

The courts need someone — a serious watchdog — looking over their shoulders, as District Attorneys. Continue reading

‘It pose to be justice system not slavery system’

Sep 18-16

I’m doing ight. I’m making it. The HRC form—I never got it!

I heard about the march and they locked down the whole jail because of it. This shit is crazy how this system work. But the thing is how the people let them do it. If we gon’ do something, let’s do it right. I heard that there pose to be a new company that’s doing food. When is that supposed to start? Continue reading

‘Something to make the time go by’

Thank you for all that you all are doing for us. It really means a lot to know that it’s some people out there in the world that cares about us. The woman’s pod is still the same. They could at least let us have a radio or something to make the time go by. Also, some board games and some uno cards–anything is better than nothing. Other than that there’s nothing else, just a shout out to my peeps in 5D: SC, GBae, Gooch, Pinky, Rd, BL. To everybody else, keep y’all head up.

The Human Dog Pound

When I look out of my cell, I see other inmates standing in the door looking out their window. We look like animals in the pound waiting for someone to take us home. When we hear keys we stand at the door. “Come get me, come get me” is the way the faces look in the door. Continue reading

‘Now I’m going through the same thing in Hillsborough’

Hello, how are you? Not sure who I’m writing by name, but I’m familiar with your work and organization. Y’all used to send me newsletters and stuff during my 22 and a half month stay in Durham County Jail from May 2012 to March 2014. I sat in there through lockbacks and all for a charge that was dismissed that I did not have anything to do with which I believe the police knew from the start. Continue reading
