“been locked up going on 14 months next month”

Hey,

My name is _______, DOB ________ and I’m still housed at Durham County Jail but the reason for this letter so you can get to know me better and see what I’m going thru.  I’m mental health and on medication for it and been locked up going on 14 months next month.  They haven’t drop my bond knowing what’s going on with my mental health and know I need outside attention.  I’m not doing good in here my A/C don’t work in my cell, the food make me sick I wrote medical and told them that put me on a special diet because of the season in the food and know I have stomach problems.  My bond is way too high for what I’m in here for $_____ it not like I kill nobody or hurt nobody period.  And plus I’m mental health I can’t help what I do when I’m not on my medication and when I wake up I can’t remember anything.  And plus when I was out I didn’t have no where to sleep at night.  If you can please help me on how they treating me and try to get me pre-trial release until they do something with these charges.  And plus I have a real sick mom out there right now.

Sincerely,

_______

Who in the fuck charges a black man of a crime and put a bond on him of one million dollars? So, basically you’ve made one’s freedom worth one million dollars–that’s just one arrest out of many a day. That shit not even logical. Help this city, it’s sad. No help.  Continue reading

‘They don’t care about us’

From a friend to a friend

Hey,

Thanks for the letters. I’ve been doing this time alone so your letters are really, really appreciated. Your time and effort you give up to reach out to me for support and help mean a lot. It’s crazy, cause you sent your last letter May 31st. I just got it like a week and a half ago. Crazy, rite? Anyways, I’ve read the feedback paper you sent and shared it with a couple people. We all are grateful for the things you and the organization does for us. We have four straight hours out a day now, so that’s better than before and you all got something to do with that. I’m in — now. I’ve been here for like two months. Far as visits I really don’t have any and haven’t had none in about 6 months, so if you wanted to come visit I would appreciate it.  Continue reading
