‘I’m not a half person’

10-3-16

Dear —

Thanks for writing to me. It took me a long time to write you back cause of my mental health and medical problems. Right now, as I write to you, it is very much a hard struggle. I don’t want my name in the feedback, only my initial L.

These are the things I want talked about. One, I’m not a half person. I’m like the singer Usher. If I’m gonna tell it, then I’m gonna tell it all!

1.) Bed bugs, or some kind of bugs I’m not sure. Now I don’t know what this meant, but before they did it I kept complaining. These bugs were eating away at us. But n-e-ways, over the weekend in the women’s pod of 5D (maybe the whole jail), Mr. Ham and his supervisor gave “everybody” brand new washcloths, towels, 1 sheet, blanket and laundry bag! A Trip to the Dentist

EPSON MFP image

What did you say, Dawn! This is true, me and another inmate we waited 6 weeks, both with the same problem. We both had teeth to break off at the gum line. Medical of course blames it on the dentist! The nurse told us both the same thing. The dentist chooses who goes first. So we decided we would ask them. Why so long? They said that they were willing to work more than 4 hours a week, but that’s all the jail would allow. I think those dentists do a very good job. At somewheres around  people a week is all they have time to do. Then they need to start transporting those who are in bad pain, 2 Tylenol in morning and evening is the max we will get for up to 1.5 months or until the dentist has seen you. I had an infection for those 6 weeks, and they still didn’t take me to the dentist. They cut my medication off, though! Had to go back down to medical to have it re-upped. Then I finally went within a week. Who’s really to blame?! And I’m damn sure I’m not by myself!! Help correct this!!

‘…more like Durham County Jungle…’

Peace and Love IOA!!!

I hope all is well with you all…peace and love to all the comrades as well!!! Durham County Jail, laugh my butt off more like, Durham County Jungle! You really want to know how is the food in here…Well, let me start by saying it’s some shit. Picture, left over gravy rice, mixed with broccoli, and baby apple sauce on the side. Potatoes that aren’t cooked. Fried chicken patties that are not fried. Fake ass hamburgers. Hot dogs, well hot dogs are so bad I can’t explain them. HOT DOGS SHOULDN’T BE THREE DIFFERENT COLORS! “Aramark is here to stay”

After reading that topic, I hope the news gets better? And it could, if we work together. Just this morning, another inmate sounded off at me. He said, ‘You still writing that shit? You’re wasting these guys’ time. Why don’t you write about something important?’ I’m thinking, ‘This guy’s got 3,000+ dollars on his books. I have .02 cents on mine. I assume, to people here in jail with 3,000 in their account here, I reckon I am wasting my time. That’s really got me primed. Wonder in the mornings which leg he starts with to get dressed. Now back to Aramark, which is teaming up with these people who are currently in control of our lives, and those who are in our circle. There’s not much to life, being in here. Continue reading

‘This jail needs to be flushed out and reorganized’

Hello IOA,

My name is Bernard Cheek. I don’t care if anyone see my name. I’m not afraid of any man or woman but Jesus and God. I would like to say the medical screening is a joke here, they don’t have the right size blood pressure cuff for my arm. The commissary is too high for the inmates, GTL is making a killing off of inmate phone calls. The hot tray they sell are very expensive. The c.o.s get wholesome food at very reasonable prices. The inmates pay for the c.o.s food, because Aramark, the jail’s food service provider triples the inmates’ hot tray price. Continue reading

‘The professionalism here is at an all-time minimum’

3-8-16

I welcome all letters, info and visitations at all times that are available (permanently–T.K.)

Hello,

I’m Tony King and let me first start off by saying my name may be used in any positive form of light that helps contribute to the awareness of what I.O.A. stands for within its public and private affairs. I must admit I am far from a perfect person; however, I am a good person, a person that believes that right is right, and wrong is wrong. With that being said, let me also say I’ve read several feedbacks and agree with all of the accusations that others have made in regards to the Durham County Jail. Now I myself would like to shed some light on some of what my observations have come to see. Continue reading

‘Boria has endangered the lives of everyone’

Re: Violations of Inmate Rights that has been protected by the Constitution and state law

We are respectfully reporting that officer Erick Boria has intentionally and willfully violated the unlawful and professional conduct at a workplace policy, which was put in place to form a more perfect union at a workplace, so we may secure the blessings of liberty and justice while waiting on the court process.

Officer Boria has violated the order by imposing vindictive retaliation, creating a hostile and unsafe environment that has put the inmates at high risk of losing complete control and failure to respond reasonably and respectable to perform his job description in a professional and suitable manner. These findings are as follows:  Continue reading

“they have fired the nurse that was on duty during Matt’s incident”

G___,

I received your letter in reply to me today. I want to thank you for your feedback. Many individuals in here have sent letters to the Inside-outside alliance or the members who originally contacted them and haven’t heard a response yet. Many inmates are concerned that their letters are not being received. So I appreciate you taking the time to reassure me that my letter was indeed received.

Anyway that I can help, I’m more than happy to do so or at least try to do so. This includes any questions you may have.

I heard recently that they have fired the nurse that was on duty during Matt’s incident, due to the events that occurred, which I find odd because I found officer Boria more so accountable for the events that occurred, and he is still present here many days.

Anyway, I’m lucky to have much support from family and friends. At the moment I don’t request much or need anything but I appreciate the offer and support. If there is anything I can do to help, please don’t hesitate to ask!

‘I just want the pain to stop…’

When I first entered this jail I was asked if I had any medical problems, I told the medical staff yes I did. Prior to entering this jail I was involved in a car accident where I told my AC joint in my shoulder and damaged my rotary cuff. My AC joint was about healed but my rotary cuff was not and still isn’t, it will require surgery. The doctor and the nurses have reviewed my medical records from Duke where I was receiving the treatment I needed which would eventually lead to surgery. Continue reading

‘I hate when people treat me like a non-factor…’

Dear I.O.A.

Thanks for ya’ll letter and concern. I’m okay I’m still alive ain’t died yet. DCJ ain’t shit! The officers come in here with attitudes just cause they can’t be in the men pods or cause they don’t want to be here, period. They always come at me with bad attitudes for no reason. I get mad as hell because I don’t think it’s right that they come in here threatening me but if I did that to them they want to press charges. Continue reading
