How is everything going?
Well, I received your letter & it came to me as a surprise cause I watch you all out there every Friday thru my window right in the front. So I want to thank you & everyone else for the time & concern you all are giving us here, the inmates of the Durham County Jail. And I do have a few things I would like to shed some light at about the problems & the conditions we are having in this jail! These problems are nothing new. It has been going on for some time! Ages… but now since the lockback people & concerned family members have taken notice but it shouldn’t have come to that for people to be concerned. Oppression has always been a problem here in the D.C.J. unhealthy living quarters, the food they serve us is nothing & most of the time it’s not even worth eating…And the food they should be giving us they sell it to us at top of the line prices! A Ramen noodle soup that cost $0.10 in the street cost a dollar in here. They won’t give us the necessary supplies we need to keep our living quarters clean… They only clean the showers once a week if that! There’s little black flies all in the showers, the drains in the showers smell bad & when you complain about it they tell you to make bail if you don’t like it… They have no respect for us at all! They treat us as if we’re other than human more like trash. The D.O.s here protect their own if they do something wrong or assault someone (inmate) their actions are justified… These problems are not about race, creed, or color! It’s about being treated fairly & correctly. Yes we are in here because we have done something or we are accused of doing it! But no matter what, no one deserves to be treated other than human.. God didn’t make anyone perfect so we are all prone to mistakes! Everyone has made one… We have made them in the past & as long as we live we will make them in the future! But they don’t see it that way. They treat us as if they’re superior to us! They say we’re criminals… But who gave these people divine power to judge us or treat us differently because of our mistakes. In Matthew 7:12 it says do not judge or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged. And with the measure you use, it will be measured to you!…I’m not writing this letter to cause any problems for anyone inmate or staff! But right is right & wrong is wrong & these people that work here most of them anyway treat us & talk to us any kind of way & that’s wrong regardless of what! Well I just wanted to share my opinion on this situation…
Sincerely, DU
