I hope that upon receiving this letter you are doing well and your loved ones as well. My name is F. W. I have been in Durham County Jail going on six months now. Since I have been here I have been through a lot as well as having seen a lot. For starters, the food mostly always sucks, we get a very small portion for breakfast at about 6:00 a.m. then we get a close-to-decent meal some of the time for lunch between 11:30 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. and for supper we get sandwiches on a daily basis at around 4:30 – 5:00 p.m. leaving a (more than) 12 hour gap in between dinner and breakfast so that way we are almost forced to buy food from canteen in which the prices are through the roof. The guards care only about what they want and they are the ones that break most of the rules here. They lock you back for any reason, they are racist and push you to see if you fall in their trap so they can lock you back. The medical department sucks because for the most part almost no one knows anything that needs to be done and for even the worst of emergencies or sickness you have to put in a sick call to be seen at the time they feel the need to see you and you get charged 10.00 dollars for even the simplest of medical needs when sometimes they don’t even do anything for you but man do they make sure to get the 10.00 dollar medical fee. We get locked back for any reason, if it’s raining, if there is a protest, if some one else does something wrong the whole pod gets locked back. These are just some of the things that go on in this place. I will stay in touch and thank you for your help and support.
