“You have to endure what they throw at you and also make sacrifices”

(IOA),

Always a pleasure to hear from you and to know that we still have people helping and continuing with the struggle. But as far as the rec-time, it still remains the same…But they use certain situations in here that happen with these guys in these gangs so they can do certain things to justify why they react the way they do. I know that’s not an excuse but it’s the only excuse they need when you have six guys jumping on one inmate here and hospitalize that inmate. And when you try and talk to these young guys, it seems like talking to a brick wall, or goes in one ear and out the other, but that doesn’t keep me from sharing my testimony with them or sharing a little knowledge about what’s happening to us as a people and a race. I truly understand what you mean about the two different problems (pencil ban and rec time reduction), didn’t mean to sound like one is more important than the other and that’s why when they search our cells the majority of the time they find pencils in the cells and don’t say anything. That’s the only time I write is when I’m in my cell. We try and talk to the guys that are doing the painting and work in the kitchen about doing certain things, but that’s a no-go, ____, we know how important those guys are to the jail period, and if they were to just stop working we would have a little breathing room or to be able to talk and make some things heard, but guys have to have a backbone and be willing to fight for something. You know? That would definitely be a positive.

I got that book (on Medical Apartheid) from a guy I’m in the block with and we think a lot alike and we are on the same page with making things right. I had a group of guys sit back one day and watch the Mexicans and a new one came in and when I say he had nothing that’s what I mean, but by the end of the night he had everything that he needed to be able to function in here. What I mean by that is: shoes, boxers, soap, deodorant, shirts, and food. So when I asked one of the young guys the next day why do you think they helped him he couldn’t answer. You know I look at it like this: no one is showing our youth anything but negativity out there because all the real men are either locked up or dead. But as usual I continue talking to them hoping to help one of them to help them understand what’s happening to us as a people and a race.

If you could, could you get me a Hebrew Dictionary if you can please. We are trying to rally people, believe me, but they have to want to be a part of the movement to make things better for us and themselves but they few people they have cells for us in the hole, but you have to endure what they throw at you and also make sacrifices, and you have some guys willing to do that but not enough.

Yeah, the Medical Apartheid book was pretty good, the book I was reading before started talking crazy so I stopped reading that. Still haven’t heard from my lawyer so don’t really know what’s going on with my case, will let you know as soon as I know something. If you could I would lie to know if yall have any books by George R. R. Martin, guy wrote the Game of Thrones books, if you have any of those I read them also. They are fiction books. That’s all for now. Hope to hear from you soon.

In the struggle,

E. Y.
